Electrotherapy is the use of an external energy source for therapeutic effect.
Neuromuscular Electrical Stimulation (NMES) is the use of an electrical current to stimulate muscle contraction and is used for reducing muscle atrophy, either due to disuse of that muscle or from neurological damage.
Transcutaneous Electrical Nerve Stimulation (TENS) is the use of an electrical current for both post-operative and chronic pain relief. It is reported to bombard the neural pathways and consequently impede the transmission of pain with long-lasting effects. It can be used in combination with analgesic drugs to provide additional pain relief and following a demonstration can be performed by owners at home.
Pulsed Electromagnetic Field Therapy (PEMFT) is the combined use of electrical and magnetic energy for the creation of a pulsed magnetic field. PEMFT can be used for pain relief, reduction of inflammation and promotion of bone healing.
I am aiming to expand upon the electrotherapies offered within the near future.
